History of the firm

Jeromes is the oldest established legal firm on the Isle of Wight with roots traceable back to 1692.

Jeromes can trace its roots back to the birth of one Robert Clarke in 1692, throughout the 1700’s the Clarkes’ were solicitor’s in Newport and in the 1800’s joined forces with the Sewell’s. Some of the names that can be traced back on the Jeromes’ family tree are:

The amalgamation of the Practice in Newport, with the Practice on the coast at Shanklin and then at Sandown, was completed by around 1900. The three offices, by the 1920’s, then known as Gunner Wilson & Jerome then, Jerome & Co, and now Jeromes.
